The thin veil of irony and sarcasm is the secret ingredient behind the success of the works of Javier Mayoral, a painter known on Instagram as PulpBrother. Of American descent, Javier was born in Spain, where he briefly worked for an advertising company. It wasn’t until his early thirties that he moved to the United States, first to New York, then to Phoenix, San Francisco, and finally to Miami. Upon arriving in America, Javier Mayoral worked as a cook and painting was just a hobby practiced in his spare time. Then, through his website and Instagram profile, he began to gain more and more success until he was exhibited in several American cities, but also in Spain, Austria, and France, managing to make a living from art.

Today, his works are sought after by publishers, fashion designers, photographers and record companies, not to mention the more than 300K follower on Instagram who can’t wait for the artist to unveil a new work. It has to be said that Javier Mayoral is very good at not leaving his friends high and dry: he currently has over 10,000 works in his portfolio. But this is not the only reason for his popularity. Javier Mayoral uses painting to portray today’s world of appearances and vices with a touch of sarcasm. Sex and the art of seduction are other recurring subjects that fit in perfectly with his style in which dark colours and grey scales frequently return, making the paintings macabre were it not for the presence of short catchphrases that dampen the atmosphere.
