Until now we thought it was impossible to sleep in the moonlight in a hotel room or close the fog in a suite, but today it is possible. Kubo Tsushima Architects has designed and built two special rooms for The Screen, a boutique hotel in Kyoto, where you can enjoy some of the most fascinating natural spectacles while lying comfortably on the bed. 

In the first of the two rooms, room 103, we find a design focused on lights. Although the room is spacious enough, it only has a small window that fails to adequately illuminate the entire room. The architects and designers thought to play with the lamps and the environment by inserting a large light disc next to the bed that adjusts its intensity according to the other lights. This lighting is inspired by the moon both in its shape and in the way it is illuminated: if all the lamps are at maximum intensity, this fake moon will be full, as the lights go down, the moon will become waning until it disappears completely. 

Moreover, thanks to the use of a darker plaster, the corners and the walls and ceiling seem rounded, giving the feeling of sleeping in a den dug underground and illuminated by the moon’s rays. 

The second room designed by Kubo Tsushima Architects is room 401 and, this time, it was not the night that inspired the architects, but the dawn, the dim and faint light of the first few minutes of light and the mist that still envelops everything. To recreate this effect, a carpet covering the entire surface of the room has been put in a green color that continues on the walls thanks to green and white brushstrokes. In this way, it will feel like being in the middle of a lawn. In addition, to best simulate the weak morning light, the lamps have been inserted in some gaps created between the ceiling and the walls so that the lighting does not arrive directly. 

Thanks to Kubo Tsushima Architects it is now possible to enclose the beauty of nature in simple hotel rooms.
