LOEWE and Studio Ghibli continue their collaboration

-

By now it’s obvious, LOEWE and Studio Ghibli are madly in love with each other.
We had already told you about the collaboration between the brand headed by Jonathan Anderson and the Japanese animation studio founded by master Hayao Miyazaki, which featured “My Neighbor Totoro” and the initiative of the same brand to support the activities of the studio’s museum.

One year later, LOEWE returns to collaborate with Studio Ghibli, this time involving the masterpiece “Spirited Away”.

A 2001 film directed by Miyazaki himself, produced by Studio Ghibli and distributed by Buena Vista, “Spirited Away” is freely inspired by the fantasy novel “The Wonderful Land Beyond the Mist” by writer Sachiko Kashiwaba and tells the adventures of Chihiro, a 10-year-old girl who, during an excursion with her parents, ends up without realizing it in an enchanted city inhabited by yōkai (in Japanese mythology they are the spirits).
The film had a huge impact globally, winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2003 – the first anime to win the category.

Jonathan Anderson has decided to pay homage to an absolute masterpiece of animation by bringing to leather bags, knitwear, blankets and T-shirts the main and unforgettable characters of the film such as Chihiro, Yubaba and Kaonashi. Just as the beautiful landscapes that characterize “Spirited Away” become beautiful all-over prints.

The items in the collaboration reflect the deep-rooted Japanese craft tradition of “boro”, which involves sewing together pieces of indigo-dyed fabric and patchworked together to create “kasuri”, which signifies precisely the result of this type of workmanship.

The lookbook of the collaboration was shot by Juergen Teller which you can see below, while the capsule collection will be available starting January 7 in stores and on loewe.com.
