Matt Stevens turns movies into book covers

It is common practice for books to be turned into movies and when the opposite happens everyone gets a little upset, but maybe these skeptics don’t know illustrator Matt Stevens and his personal project Good Movies as Old Books

Passionate about cinema, Matt has thought of creating a special library of books with only books with covers illustrated by himself and each one inspired by a different film. What the illustrator wanted to emphasize is that the choice of films is extremely personal, based only on his tastes. Precisely for this reason, we find titles that have seen one or more Oscars, more commercial titles and some little known ones, and perhaps it is precisely this heterogeneity that makes the series of illustrations striking and extraordinary.

In a single image, Matt Stevens manages to concentrate the essence of the film, the main elements or simply the atmosphere.

From Parasite to Fargo, from Marvel films to Fight Club, what all the covers have in common is a vintage and neglected style that gives the impression that the books have been gathering dust on a forgotten bookcase for years.

We’ve only selected some of his covers, but to find out all of them visit Matt Stevens’ website.
