The duo of anonymous artists MonkeyBird creates large murales that take up the visual stylistic tradition associated with the world of mythology and alchemy.
The two Bordeaux-based artists live traveling around the world and working both externally and internally; they will soon be in Moscow until October 11 for a new project. Members of MonkeyBird have stated that their training in graphic design and industrial design has played a decisive role in shaping their imagery.
MonkeyBird’s style is made up of recurring elements such as the articulated black and white drawings of mythological animal-creatures, enriched with gold chloride, a hue that immediately makes one think of the graphics of ancient sacred texts. Most of the duo’s works of art depict a humanoid monkey and a bird representing “the two faces of mankind: the monkey is realistic, and the bird is a dreamer,” as the 5Art Gallery in Paris reaffirmed.
Essential elements linked to a consolidated visual tradition such as classical architecture, timing devices, and scales add to the couple’s timeless appearance.
