A few days ago, on June 20, the second edition of Super Walls ended, the Biennale of street art of Abano Terme and Padua that aims to bring new life to the urban landscape through public art interventions, which this year called 39 Italian and international urban artists to create works following the theme of rebirth.
Among these artists, one of the protagonists of the initiative was certainly MrFijodor, stage name of Fijodor Benzo, Italian street artist and artist known for his works that are characterized by elementary forms used to convey messages and direct values. 

For the mural he created for Super Walls we find this imprint, in fact, the artwork entitled “CONSUMERISM CONSUMES US” represents a giant cigarette made on the outside wall of the ICS Briosco in Padua.
In this case, the cigarette represents the vicious circle of consumption that bends us to the point of consuming us, but it also represents a routine embodied by the gesture of smoking that is part of life for many who almost do not realize it.

“I did the draft a few months ago, in the winter. In general, the draft for me is actually a canvas. It’s helpful for me to have the idea, but then I get carried away by the place and feelings I have in the making. I’m guided by the context and the people I meet or stop to chat with while I’m painting. Interaction is key. In general, I know very little about where I start from and I certainly don’t know where I end up. So each work becomes a journey.” – MrFijodor

The work also wants to have a message related to the environmental problem, in fact, among the daily gestures related to smoking there is also that of throwing butts on the ground, impacting on everyone’s life. 

“The consumption of land, the waste of resources and pollution of our cities are all factors that impact on our quality of life, but we pretend not to notice. His work is a biting invitation to stop our bad habits, starting with smoking, and to choose a more conscious and sustainable life, for us and for the environment”. – Carlo Silvestrin, curator of Super Walls
