We Can’t Stop Thinking About the Kitchen by Natalia Criado

Gems at Home is the project presented by designer Natalia Criado at Villa Borsani, part of Alcova—one of our favorite stops at Milan Design Week, which concluded many weeks ago, yet we still find ourselves thinking about it. The collectible design pieces created by Criado are a meeting point between functionality and decorative art, ranging from containers to coffee cups, cutlery, floral, or fruit vases.

Natalia’s objects carry with them a sense of time, ready to tell a story and possess a soul. Each piece is born from hours of experience invested in its creation and aims to offer the gift of time to those who admire or own them. When interacting with these objects, «one engages in a ritual and is offered the opportunity to slow down and savor the moment,» says Natalia Criado.

«My vocation lies at the intersection of design and craftsmanship, seamlessly blending these disciplines into harmonious creations. Drawing inspiration from the captivating heritage of pre-Columbian forms, my works embody a captivating fusion between the cultural legacies of Colombia and Italy» concludes the Colombian designer.

Criado’s goal remains to create objects that not only endure over time but also possess a timeless aesthetic, beyond any trend. This is precisely why the designer’s objects remain etched in our memory and will continue to do so for a long time, even in the face of a setup that is perfect in its relaxed casualness.
