The future of Nike starts with a return to its roots. “Bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world” isn’t just a motto, but the mission now driving a profound change within the company. Nike, Inc. has announced a new chapter in its history, bringing together for the first time the Innovation, Design, and Product teams of Nike, Jordan, and Converse into a single creative engine with a clear goal: to put athletes at the center of everything.

This new approach, called Sport Offense, aims to make the dialogue between research, technology, and design more fluid, accelerating the creation of products that can tangibly improve performance. “Everything begins and ends with the athlete’s voice,” explains Phil McCartney, Chief Innovation, Design and Product Officer at NIKE, Inc. “By bringing our strengths together, we’re pushing the boundaries of innovation to create epic products that make athletes better.”

The vision takes shape in four new platforms that embody the direction Nike wants to move toward — a more human innovation, capable of responding to the needs of both body and mind.

Aero-FIT is the new pinnacle of cooling technology: a fabric able to channel twice the airflow compared to previous garments, designed for performance in extreme conditions.
Nike Mind stems from over ten years of neuroscience research and debuts with the Mind 001 and 002, the first footwear designed to influence athletes’ mindset, helping them focus before and after competition. Project Amplify marks a step forward in “powered” technology: it’s the first assisted-footwear system for running and walking, capable of reducing effort and increasing speed.
Finally, Therma-FIT Air Milano brings Air technology to outerwear, allowing you to regulate temperature without changing layers, with versatility ranging from a lightweight sweatshirt to a mid-weight puffer.

Behind these innovations is a network of nearly a thousand designers and researchers, from the bioengineers and neuroscientists at the LeBron James Innovation Center to the craftspeople of the Bowerman Footwear Lab, all the way to the monumental spaces of the Serena Williams Building, the beating heart of the Nike campus.

The result is a vision that seeks to fuse creativity, science, and intuition. Not only to enhance performance, but to create an emotional impact — what McCartney calls “the magic”: products that not only work, but amaze, inspire, and make you feel something. For Nike, innovating today means returning to the starting point: listening to athletes, imagining solutions that don’t yet exist, and turning them into reality.
