Yesterday at 2 p.m. the show, strictly digital, was staged, presenting the Prada Womenswear Fall/Winter 2021 collection, designed by the duo of Creative Directors of the Italian fashion house Raf Simons and Miuccia Prada.

It’s called “Possible Feelings II: Transmute” nd inside there is optimism, evolution, change but at the center is always the human being and his nature, where, however, gender disappears to make room for a transformation of form and content obtained by playing masterfully with contrasts.

“In this collection we played with the idea of classic, subverting it, transmuting it. The bomber-wrap, a ‘wrap’ with the sleeves of a bomber jacket, is the perfect evocation of that. By classic, I mean that it has stood the test of history – the term ‘classic’ means that a garment has something inherently necessary or intelligent about it, something meaningful. I like the word ‘classic’ for that very reason. It indicates something that is truly relevant to people, to life. Often, simply through new materials, a different cut or context, something obvious, timeless, normal can be transformed with a simple gesture. That’s what I really love about fashion”.

These are the words of Miuccia Prada, while Raf Simons has focused on the choice of the word transmutation as the core of the collection: “We are intrigued by the fundamental and essential idea of change. Transmutation is the word we return to, understood as something that slowly transforms, moves and changes, intensifies. And it’s fascinating because it’s such a broad idea that it can be applied to so many things. There are so many more contrasts in this collection – retro and futuristic, ornate and minimal, sporty and elegant – by combining them and making them hybrids of each other, we’ve created something that feels new”.

The now customary Q&A held by the creative director duo was enriched by a conversation about the ongoing dialogue that the two have been engaged in for over a year now. Moderated by journalist Derek Blasberg, the chat was attended by director Lee Daniels – who chose Prada to design the costumes worn by Andra Day who plays Billie Holiday in his new film “The United States vs. Billie Holiday” – Marc Jacobs, Richie Hawtin, Rem Koolhaas and Hunter Schafer.

This air of change and optimism also stems from the alchemy that Miuccia and Raf Simons are developing in this collaboration: “It all seems very natural to me but in the same way it’s challenging of course and I expected it, I wanted it to be otherwise I would never have accepted”, said Simons about the work done so far with Miuccia Prada.
