It is called 365 Days of Drawing, the project of Ryan Todd who shares a visual idea every day (for a year) on his Instagram profile. A routine that, like a discipline, motivates the artist to create every day, even when he doesn’t feel like it or the ideas are few. “I’m too tired and drunk and I’m going to bed,” he writes in the 268th day idea, demonstrating unfiltered even the moments of weakness and difficulty, which are very normal in anyone’s life, especially a creative one. Ryan Todd’s year of ideas has just come to an end, and looking at all 365 drawings it is clear how the one he developed is real visual thinking. In other words, visual exercises that help him think about much broader concepts, here summarized in black-on-white illustrations. Simple, minimal but capable of speaking ironically about sometimes complex and delicate issues. At other times, however, fantasy takes hold, humor prevails and a vaguely surrealist aspect emerges. Positive messages, deeper reflections, in short, to discover all of Ryan’s ideas go to his profile and get lost in his feed.
