As we announced to you a year ago and secondly a few months ago, Japanese designer and mastermind behind the sacai label, Chitose Abe, has finally unveiled her Haute Couture for Fall/Winter 2021 by Jean Paul Gaultier.
The French couturier has left everything in the hands of Abe who had the opportunity to take inspiration from those that are the topoi of the maison but contaminating them with the typical designs of sacai.
31 looks where nothing is missing: the MA-1 bomber jackets, a trench coat that becomes a dress and the famous pastel pink corset with bullet bra worn by Madonna, which has become iconic and pop image par excellence.
Patchwork sweaters, very wide accordion skirts, a vintage denim underskirt and a replica of a jacket from the 1994 Jean Paul Gaultier collection.
Many of the garments in this collection feature geometric graphics by Los Angeles-based tattoo artist Dr. Woo, a tribute to Jean Paul Gaultier. A further tribute to the French couturier are the dresses from his last show transformed into a single evening dress and a set of trousers.
Chitose Abe also continued his collaboration with Nike with the Jean Paul Gaultier x sacai x Nike Vaporwaffle capsule but also worked with Pierre Hardy for boots inspired by JPG’s own corsets.
To kick things off, a ready-to-wear drop is already available on JPG’s website, which also includes a limited edition of Jean Paul Gaultier’s original fragrance featuring a Dr. Woo print.
