“The end”, this is the massage that appeared two days ago on the Instagram account of the maison Jean Paul Gaultier.
A rather cryptic statement given that the former enfant terrible of French fashion had already announced his retirement from the scene in January 2020.
However, Gaultier had reassured fans that the fashion house he founded in 1970, which bears his name, would not close its doors, far from it: “I am pleased to announce the new concept of my Haute Couture. Every season I will invite a designer to interpret the codes of the house and I am doubly pleased that Chitose Abe from Sacai will be the first guest designer. I admire her work, we have a lot in common, both from a creative point of view and in the vision we have of fashion. I’m happy to give her complete freedom”.
Japanese designer Chitose Abe, founder of the sacai brand, will curate Jean Paul Gaultier’s first Haute Couture show to be presented during Paris fashion week July 5-9.
“I have great admiration for Jean Paul’s unique vision of subversive femininity and its originality, to which I have committed myself from the beginning in my work. It is a real honor to have the opportunity to be the custodian of his maison as the first designer of this project”, these are Abe’s words about her involvement.
A few hours ago, however, always on the Instagram account of the French fashion house appeared a new post with the caption “And More…” accompanied by the hashtag #FutureIsCollective.
This leads us to think that “The end” announcement was just a tesing, a sort of turning point for what will be the future of the French couturier’s creature.
In fact, the description of the French fashion house’s Instagram profile now reads “Welcome to the new era of Jean Paul Gaultier” and putting the pieces of this communication puzzle together, we can easily expect more announcements in the coming days.
