WURSTEL, the new seating piece by Studio Lecker, starts from a memory—but above all from food as an emotional language, from memory as raw material, and from irony as a design method.

The project is part of The Nostalgia of Food, an ever-evolving collection that explores the relationship between nourishment, belonging, and identity. In this case, the inspiration is personal, almost domestic. A family moving between South Africa and Germany—intertwined cultures, coexisting languages, meals that turn into rituals. At the center of the table, and of the story, is the sausage: the coiled Boerewors on one side, the straight, orderly Frankfurter on the other. Two shapes, two worlds, the same sense of comfort.

WURSTEL translates all of this into an object that isn’t afraid to be explicit. Its silhouette is immediately recognizable—playful, almost cheeky—but beneath the ironic surface lies a seat designed to be genuinely welcoming. Soft, generous, enveloping. An invitation to sit without too many rules, to take up space, to stay.

Contrast is one of the project’s key elements: a bold, graphic red metal structure supports a pink silk-upholstered body, as soft as a cloud. It’s a balance between rigor and pleasure, between design and instinct, that perfectly reflects the studio’s approach. Studio Lecker doesn’t reject minimalism—it simply questions it, replacing subtraction with emotion, humor, and a strong tactile dimension.

WURSTEL ultimately reveals itself as a narrative object. It’s designed for adults who haven’t lost their taste for play, and for interiors that embrace the idea that design can also be light, affectionate, and personal. Completing the project is EXTRAWURSTEL, a complementary element that works as a footrest, bench, or extension of the seat. An addition that reinforces the idea of sharing and informal comfort, fully aligned with the spirit of the entire collection.

Designed and produced in Hamburg, WURSTEL is a clear statement of intent: design can be born from a sausage, from a family memory, from an everyday gesture—and become an object capable of making us feel, even if just for a moment, at home.
