The Other Place, the hotel that come out of Escher’s paintings

For its latest project, the design studio Studio10 was inspired by nothing less than the series of lithographs Impossible Constructions created by Escher in the 1950s. This is how the two Maze and Dream suites of the guesthouse boutique The Other Place were created.

The objective of the Studio10 team was to create a mysterious place that, with plays of light and shadow, the creation of fake spaces and particular use of elements such as doors or stairs, gave the illusion of being infinite.

The two rooms differ only in the choice of colors. In Dream we enter an environment characterized by a palette of soft colors, all in shades of pastel pink and white, while in Maze was used a palette of much darker colors, echoing the nuances of the undergrowth. Despite the two profoundly different decisions, in both cases, a surreal environment has been created that almost gives the creeps.
