A few years ago, during a vacation in Telluride, a mountain resort in Colorado, conceptual artist Tavares Strachan started thinking about a site-specific work to be installed on a climb and visible from the chairlift. The artwork was to be a huge neon sign with the phrase “We are in this together“. 

Almost four years have passed since then and at the time Tavares Strachan would never have imagined how much his work would be adapted to the moment we are living. If in Italy the phrase that resonated everywhere, on television and in the newspapers was “everything will be fine” (“andrà tutto bene”), in America it was “We are in this together“. 

Precisely for this reason the project to complete the work and inaugurate it this summer has not stopped, on the contrary, it has turned into “Together”, a real initiative to raise funds and help the Telluride community, which also involved the Telluride Foundation and the Ah Haa School for the Arts. So, pandemic permitting, “We are in this together” will turn pink in the summer months and will remain on one side of the mountain for 18 months. 

Tavares Strachan’s work has become a message of hope not only for local citizens, but for the whole world.
