“La Maison en Petits Cubes” (“Tsumiki no ie“) is the animated short film by Kunio Katō with which the Japanese animator and director represented the way of saying “immerse yourself in memories”.
The protagonist is an elderly man who lives alone in a house that emerges from the water. Only later do we discover that the foundations of the house are meters and meters below sea level and that every time the water level rises the old man is forced to build another floor.
One day events will lead him to dive to the bottom, retracing his entire life.
“La Maison en Petits Cubes” is sweet and gentle and won the Oscar for Best Animated Short in 2009.
