We had a chat with Martino Consigli in art “Irbis 37“, 10 questions, one for each song on the album “Un altro cielo”, released on February 20th.
Irbis 37 is a super fast train leaving from Milan Bovisa with destination all over Italy, from “Bacio” to “Quei seni” a long journey between sweet lyrics and pop, trap and rap sounds.

“Bacio”, the first track of your new album is one of the most expressive. There are so many time jumps from one moment of life to another, from your memories as a child, your first cigarettes, your first experiences, drugs until today to which “alla tua curiosità non basta piazza”.
How much of you is inside this piece?
Very. It’s a song in which I told about myself on a very concrete level, although at other times I went much deeper.
This second track, “Mentre dormi”, released a few months ago seems to describe a poisonous, sometimes toxic, relationship between nightmares and spiders, a light, a moment and a sound, everything seems really complex. We couldn’t not ask you, since you impressed us so much with spiders in bed, what are your worst nightmares?
Nightmares in songs, really I just have good dreams.
In “Gatta nera” you quote the number 37, an element that undoubtedly distinguishes you, which at the same time seems to be fundamental, called a talisman. But what does it really mean to you? Where does it all come from?
I was about 16 when a friend came to the square saying he had seen 37 everywhere for days, as a recurring number. At first we all mocked him, but one by one we were infected by this unusual phenomenon, perhaps out of self-conviction, perhaps because it was really a special number.
Then we grew up, everyone took their own way and 37 took on a different meaning for everyone, someone forgot about it but for many of us it became important.
An experience that taught me so much about the relativity of things.
Even in this piece, “Che furba”, you seem to put a big part of yourself.
There are admissions of guilt, you say you’ve given the worst part, a poisonous, difficult relationship, that takes you and throws you to the ground, puts you in tension like a rubber band.
“Ti ho regalato il me che preferivo e non lo riconosco, non credo più alle favole che mi racconto”, concretely what state of mind did you arrive at this record? Has this relationship influenced you a lot?
Often when I refer to a female figure I don’t talk about one woman in particular, but on the contrary I put many important women in my life. Sometimes I talk about more or less important exes, my mother, my sister and a casual one-night stand in the same verse. Usually I’m not interested in creating a clear narrative, or telling events with a particular timeline. I tend to take inspiration from the various experiences of my life to tell an atmosphere.
Even in “Ti accompagno in zona”, a strange relationship, to which you seem very attached, a passion that makes you pale, what would you never want to hear from someone you love?
Love, you can tell me everything, you know.
“Fame da lupi”, a song that preceded the release of the album. In the intro I defined you as a super fast train that leaves from Milan Bovisa with destination all over Italy. But really after this album, what is the wolf hunger of Irbis 37? Where would you like to arrive?
My goal right now is to pay my rent with live money.
In “Osa osa” you don’t remember anything, you’re pathological and you never forget. You seemed weak, but actually no, you fly at two thousand per hour, as the title says, is there something on the album or in a song that you really dared or forced your hand a bit?
No, in fact every track of the record was born in a very fluid way, we were playing around and when we passed in Milan we would lock ourselves in the studio to rehearse.
I didn’t expect anything from the ideas that came out because I had my head on something else.
Even if there is no border between you and the rest, we see you alone, with a bit of fear but always with your traveling companions Logos.Lux and dNoise, who produced this song and not only, is there someone or something from which you took inspiration for the album?
I was inspired by our experiences and my perception of reality, even on a sensory level.
“Un drago nel petto, sangue nel corpo che sgorga”. “Domani notte”, a song that seems to have been written between doubt and loneliness. How bad did it make you feel to be away from someone you seem to care about so much?
Enough to write this song.
We’ve come to the conclusion with “Quei seni”, a song that closes your album. Coincidence or not, you’ve been on the run forever, you feel like you can’t breathe, but why did you decide to close with this sweet and sometimes romantic song?
Those breasts is a song I wrote almost a year ago. It’s like a music box that cradles you and when it’s finished playing it goes back in its box.
