Wormhole Library, a futuristic library overlooking the sea

About two years ago, the local government of the Chinese island province of Hainan launched a plan to improve the use of public spaces in the area of Haikou Bay, the capital of the province.
Among the many projects, the first that will see the light – probably before the end of the year – will be the one for the Wormhole Library signed by MAD studio

The architects of the Chinese studio were inspired by the world of physics, declaring that the sensuously curved pavilion appears to be a “wormhole” that transcends time and space

In fact, a quick glance at the project is enough to notice how the atypical shape and curved lines of the facades and roof make us think of a prehistoric place, like a cave, and at the same time of a futuristic structure straight out of a science fiction movie.

Located inside Century Park, the Wormhole Library will offer its spaces to anyone who wants to spend an afternoon of relaxation, sheltered from the sun and the heat typical of the area, especially in summer.
The building houses a library of over 690 square meters capable of containing over 10,000 volumes, a reading room dedicated to children and a second reading room overlooking the sea.

Moreover, inside the Wormhole Library, there are also offices, a reception, a bar, a VIP room, bicycle parking and public toilets with showers.

MAD’s project is designed to offer residents a place not far from the chaos of the city where they can find serenity and calm.
