It seems that the name of the Calabrian town of Cinquefrondi derives from the five towers that surrounded the defensive fortification of the first settlement, where today stands the town. 5 Torri di Pace is the name of the mural by Massimo Sirelli built in a former kindergarten, now deconsecrated chapel.

Over the course of history, the kindergarten structure was flanked by the School of Cutting and Sewing of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart, who were already working in Cinquefrondi in the 19th century. After several enlargements and renovations, the building complex took on its present appearance and after the 1960s it was gradually abandoned.

Painting only a portion of the wall would have been rather limiting, considering the important historical and cultural background of the location, that’s why street artist Massimo Sirelli decided to paint the entire facade of the building.

“Colour by its nature has an inclusive value. Colour generates positive emotions and does not need reading tools. Colour is able to reach everyone without limits of age, social background, religion or language. Colour unites everyone”.

Unione and PACE, a word made up of 5 letters that become gigantic towers. The site specific work has been realized involving the students of some local schools and it has been thought with the purpose to sensitize the attention of the others towards the “already known”.
