A24: When a logo is worth as much as the film

Giulia Guido

What do films like Moonlight, The Sacred Deer, The Whale, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Past Lives, Euphoria, Priscilla have in common? (Aside from being critical and box office successes). The answer is a small 3-letter word hiding a world within: A24.

A24 is an American film production and distribution company – despite the name being a direct reference to the Italian A24 highway, where David Fenkel was driving when he came up with the idea to found it – born in 2012. Since then, in just a few years, it has managed to carve out a worthy space within the American film landscape, where the major studios still hold the majority of productions. A24’s success is due to the fact that the same commitment put into the selection and production of their films has been put into developing a strong identity, both stylistic and aesthetic. The flag of this identity is the logo, simple, elegant, and impactful, created by the agency GrandArmy. Impossible not to have it in mind.

A24’s productions have quickly become synonymous with quality, and every time we see its logo at the beginning of a film or in a trailer, we already know what to expect. In an industry that increasingly focuses on the momentary star transformed into a living embodiment of the film, A24’s case still gives hope for cinema done well, with heart, and cared for down to the smallest detail, starting from the opening titles.

To emphasize the importance of the film and to immediately immerse the viewer in the story, since the first production in 2012 with Spring Breakers, the A24 team has decided to adapt its logo to the film’s aesthetics. A detail, a second among a thousand others that many have not overlooked and that now arouses more and more admiration – many even have their own personal ranking of favorite logos. We couldn’t choose one, but we leave you here with the most particular ones.
