In celebration of this Spring/Summer 2021 collaboration, the Teddy Santis -founded brand released a video campaign that is a pure declaration of love to basketball and a tribute to Nike Basketball’s unforgettable and iconic 2001 ADV titled “Freestyle”.
Directed by Paul Hunter for the Wieden+Kennedy, agency, which has been handling the Beaverton-based company’s campaigns for years, that unforgettable commercial featured NBA stars of the caliber of Rasheed Wallace, Darius Miles, Lamar Odom, Vince Carter and Jason Williams.
The latter is the link with the Spring/Summer ’21 International Friendship Through Basketball campaign created by Aimé Leon Dore, in fact the former Sacramento Kings and Miami Heat player (with whom he won the NBA title in 2006) is present in the New York brand’s campaign and perfectly repeats the crossover that distinguished him in the Nike ad of 20 years ago and closes the video with his absurd “elbow pass”, seen for the first time at the All-Star Game of 2000.
In addition to “White Chocolate” – this is J-Will’s nickname – Aimé Leon Dore recreated that incredible commercial with the help of a series of New York basketball legends such as Charlese Oakley, Rafer Alston aka Skip To My Lou, Bobbito Garcia aka Kool Bob Love and others.
The backdrop for the campaign is the beautiful New York City, home of the brand led by Teddy Santis.
The release of the capsule collection in collaboration between Aimé Leon Dore and New Balance is scheduled for tomorrow, April 16th exclusively online and in ALD stores.
