The temptation to scribble faces portrayed in images and photos is a childish reflex that has tempted in history even great artists like Marcel Duchamp, who in L.H.O.O.Q. did not hold back from adding a nice pair of mustache to Leonardo’s Mona Lisa. The page Settimana Enigmistica Villains collects the passion of an admin who, like Duchamp, can’t hold back, making Settimana Enigmistica a “magazine that boasts countless supervillains”.

With only a black BIC in hand, Settimana Enigmistica Villains manages to give an ironic look to those photographs that have made the history of the most famous Italian weekly magazine dedicated to crossword puzzles. Many are the VIPs who have passed from the front page of Settimana Enigmistica since its first issue, published on January 23, 1932. At the beginning the faces were drawn thanks to the black boxes, then the photos started to appear, unmistakable for that feature that makes actors and singers look like so many wax statues of Madame Tussaud.
In this Instagram profile the same characters appear as Hollywood villains, devils and brutes. If you think Roberto Bolle looks better when he dances, you’ll have a hard time recognizing Lindsay Lohan, assured.
