The collaboration between Aries, Havana Club and Joshua Gordon

Sometimes collaborations born with a commercial purpose can become pretexts to give life to artistic projects worthy of note. One of these is by Aries, Havana Club and Joshua Gordon

The famous luxury streetwear brand has, in fact, announced its collaboration with the Cuban rum company and the English photographer and filmmaker, which produced not only the capsule collection Aires x Havana Club, but also a photographic exhibition and a book

At the heart of the artistic research of this six-handed project is the drag and trans community of Havana. For this reason, Joshua has been in close contact with the subjects of his photos for over a month, taking pictures in different parts of the Cuban capital.

“I’ve always found trans women fascinating, powerful and beautiful. […] I always wanted to work on a project just about their identity and transition and this was a perfect vehicle.” – Joshua Gordon.

In addition to these polaroids, Gordon then moved to a London studio where, with Aries Sofia Prantera’s creative director and designer Jane How, he took a series of images in which the symbol of the Giraldilla – which appears in the Havana Club logo – alternates with the pieces of the Aries x Havana Club capsule.

“I see the Aries brand as a champion of less obvious ideas about subcultures, outsider perspectives and art.” – Sofia Prantera.

The entire work will be shown to the public in Milan, London, Berlin and Tokyo throughout the month of November during events where it will also be possible to buy the Butterfly book that contains the shots, the items in the collection and a limited edition bottle of Havana Club.

All the products will also be available online from Tuesday 5 November, while the Butterfly exhibition and installation will be open to the public in Milan from 5 to 12 November at Spazio Maiocchi and in Tokyo from 28 November to 5 December at the Komiyama Bookshop.

House of Genius: Moncler fashion show in the Galleria in Milan

House of Genius: Moncler fashion show in the Galleria in Milan

Collater.al Contributors · 1 month ago · Style

Moncler opens its new boutique in the city of Milan at Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II introducing House of Genius, a new project between future and heritage conceived by Remo Ruffini.

Yesterday night, Thursday 7 November 2019, in Milan, there was the presentation of the first House of Genius of Moncler signed by Remo Ruffini. Like every year, the fashion brand, back to surprise and fascinate us with its iconic shows and in fact yesterday in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II was held a show that lives up to expectations.
House of Genius, as we have already discussed here, is an innovative project launched by the French fashion house in February 2018 during Fashion Week and that continues to evolve, true to its motto: “one house, different voices”.
In this season, the co-investigation team for the realization of the project is not only designers but also artists, musicians, and creative people.

This is a special way to baptize the temporary concept store which will remain open until the end of January 2020. In parallel with Milan, there are been opened others concept stores in Tokyo and in Paris at 60 avenue des Champs-Élysées.

The curator of the format is Francesco Ragazzi, who imagined the sales area as an art gallery in which to install new works, or rather the collections linked to the Moncler Genius project together with unpublished articles designed for the host cities.

This allowed the rendering of a fantastic contrast with the nineteenth-century neo-renaissance classicism that characterizes the Gallery and the modernity of the House of Genius project.

This innovative project takes shape in a symbolic place: Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II that it’s been turned into a theater of the performance for a few hours.

The protagonist of the event are models and dancers who have worn vintage Moncler coats, to honor the autobiographical memory of the mark according to Vanessa Beecroft, an Italian artist specialized in the artist expression of the tableau vivant which means the realization of “living pictures”.

It was her idea to perform inside the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and to involve models and dancers to create a sort of living artwork that reflects her art.
A similar initiative had already been carried out in the past by Moncler.
In 2008, at the Triennale di Milano, one hundred models paraded wearing a feather jacket of the homonymous brand.

Stüssy, the new Chapter Store opens in Milan

Stüssy, the new Chapter Store opens in Milan

Collater.al Contributors · 1 month ago · Style

This week the streetwear brand Stüssy announced, through its official page on Instagram, the opening of the new Chapter Store on November 16, in Milan.
This news comes after last week’s opening of the last Chapter Store in Hong Kong adding another location to the company’s international network after London, Los Angeles, Seoul and Amsterdam. Like the Hong Kong one, this space was conceived by the W&PA design studio.

The design of the store will follow the continuous evolution of the retail mode on which the brand is based. The retail shop will still be in line with the existing ones, but at the same time new features will be introduced. The aim is to combine different eras of modern design, from early modernism to postmodernism through contemporary hybrids, to arrive at something that seems like a fresh and innovative breath brought directly from California.

The opening of the store will be accompanied by the sale of two exclusive
t-shirts costumed only for the city of Milan. In the first one, next to the brand “Stüssy” will be represented the symbol that identifies the city of Milan, and no, we are not talking about the San Siro stadium, but about the Madonnina. All gold, of course.
On the back, however, is kept minimal with the words “STÜSSY MILANO CHAPTER” printed on the back of the neck followed by the address of the store: C.so di Porta Ticinese 103, 20123, Milan.
In the second one there is an illustration of a pillar that supports above the words “STÜSSY MILANO” and the address of the place that is shown below.

To inaugurate the store, a party will be held at Spazio Maiocchi the day before, on November 15th, with the support of Slam Jam.

KIDSOFBROKENFUTURE, the new Future Renaissance collection

KIDSOFBROKENFUTURE, the new Future Renaissance collection

Collater.al Contributors · 4 weeks ago · Style

The fashion brand KIDSOFBROKENFUTURE born in Milan from Marta Sanchez and Elbio Bonsaglio – as we talked about here – is one of the most innovative in the industry in recent years.
It is mainly aimed at kids, or millennials and the Z generation, who want to build a different future than the one for which they are intended.
During the month of September, the brand launched its new Future Renaissance collection, which can be purchased on the official website and in selected stores.

The autumn-winter collection ’19/’20 approaches art with strong references to the Renaissance period that goes from 1300 to 1600.
This collection was created in collaboration with Nirvana Kamal, who provided the graphics for the development of the garments. The textures of the garments are made through a collage of Renaissance works opposed to symbols of modern/contemporary culture, obtaining a reinterpretation of the connection between the past and the present. There are many references to very famous works of art such as Magritte’s Lovers, Michelangelo’s David and more modern elements such as the film Pulp Fiction.

A point in favor of the brand is the importance given to the ecological aspect so much so as to use both organic cotton and nylon obtained from the recycling of plastic recovered in the Oceans. Each product approaches different styles and worlds and conveys different messages but they have the same ideal: the emancipation of young people and at the same time a strong provocation towards society.
The messages that want to be conveyed revolve around the responsibilities that we have in life, the idea that everything is achieved with our commitment, the identity, and uniqueness of each person and living with courage our diversity making it a point of strength.
The collection includes a wide range of products, each of which focuses on a specific theme.
The sweatshirts and jackets embody the pure and ethereal Renaissance beauty that meets with the eroticism and sensuality present in recent years. These two points of view merge to become a new icon of modern times while in t-shirts and trousers the concept is that of religion and sensuality. The brand’s collections are divided into three phases called “stages”. Future Renaissance belongs to the first and deals with the theme of denunciation and social criticism to all attitudes of inconsistency and indifference that have had a devastating effect on our past and that affect our daily future.
In the other two phases, the kids are given an important role, that is, the task of distorting this scenario through a revolution that can allow us not to be constantly conditioned by our past to better live our present and create a community that can then reach, at the end of this path, an awareness and a maturity.
