All The Charm of the New Barbie Phone

Y2K vibes, the beloved Barbiecore that held us captive throughout the summer of 2023, and two magic words: “digital detox.” These are the premises of the new Barbie Phone, the flip phone born from the collaboration between Human Mobile Devices—the Finnish company behind Nokia—and Mattel. The goal of this product seems to be to satisfy a large portion of the audience interested in undertaking that much-discussed social and digital detox, which still tempts us even after the end of this summer. This seems like the perfect opportunity to see if the magical world of Barbie can once again win us over with this new strategy devised by the American toy company. Let’s see what it’s all about.

Highly recognizable stickers, interchangeable covers, and other accessories accompany the Barbie Phone, as we can see in this review of the device. One of the strengths—mentioned earlier—seems to be the 0.3-megapixel camera, perfect for capturing images in early 2000s Britney style, which, along with Barbie-themed frames, adds a definitely more playful touch. The phone comes with two covers: one featuring colorful spirals from the 1992 Barbie Totally Hair design and another with a pattern of floating hearts. The strap—another remnant of Y2K fascination—completes the package.

According to some statements reported by Forbes Italy, it seems that there will also be some easter eggs to make the user experience even more enjoyable for those who purchase this phone—priced at just under $100. In short, the Barbie world continues to churn out accessories and collaborations that, despite their redundant and sugary flavor, we’ll keep an eye on.
