At first glance, BIRKENSTOCK 1774 and Repetto seem to belong to worlds far apart. On one side the German brand that built its reputation on comfort and foot anatomy, on the other the French maison born in the rehearsal rooms of the Paris Opéra’s dancers. It’s precisely this apparent distance that makes the collaboration one of the most interesting of the season. Both brands were born to follow the foot, support its movement and turn functionality into a natural gesture. Birkenstock has studied the shoe from an anatomical point of view, developing a footbed designed to follow its natural structure. Repetto, on the other hand, created a shoe following the language of dance, where every movement demands precision, balance and lightness. Two different approaches, but guided by the same question: how can a shoe become an extension of the body?

The Birkenstock 1774 × Repetto collection debuts today, July 16, 2026, through the official channels of both brands and at selected international retailers. Not simply a branding exercise, but a dialogue between two European craft traditions that have always prioritized functionality even before fashion.

The collection takes shape across three models. The Arizona keeps its essential character, but is lightened by softer details, such as rounded buckles and a Vichy fabric lining, a discreet nod to the Repetto universe. The Opéra, a sabot with a clean silhouette, introduces gros-grain ribbons reminiscent of ballet slippers, turning a pragmatic model into something surprisingly refined. Finally, Scala represents perhaps the most successful synthesis of the whole project, a ballet flat with a Birkenstock footbed, able to combine French elegance with the comfort that made the German brand famous. Even the palette tells a story. Iconic Pink, Flame Red and Profound Black aren’t simple color variants, but shades that belong to Repetto’s DNA, reinterpreted through materials typical of Birkenstock, alternating matte leathers and glossy finishes. 

What makes this collaboration interesting is above all the moment it arrives in. In recent years fashion has progressively abandoned the opposition between elegance and comfort. It’s no coincidence that balletcore keeps influencing runways and wardrobes, while Birkenstock, thanks to the 1774 line, has built a language increasingly close to research-driven fashion. The meeting with Repetto thus appears as the natural evolution of two brands that have made movement their reason for being. Birkenstock x Repetto tells the story of a paradigm shift: the shoe is no longer just an accessory, but a tool that interprets the way we move, live and move through spaces.
