Something new in town! The last weekend of September, ICA Milan hosted the first edition of “Books and others“, three days dedicated to the books of art and visual culture, in which are presented and made available to the public about 100 titles of books and art catalogs proposed by 30 Italian publishers.

The curators are Chiara Costa, publisher and contemporary art historian, Giovanna Silva, photographer and founder of the Humboldt Books, Dallas, a graphic and creative design studio founded by Francesco Valtolina and Kevin Pedron, and Alberto Salvadori, ICA director.

At the same time, ICA hosted the exhibition “Work-Book-Work“ curated by Gregorio Magnani on the subject of the artist’s book. The exhibition puts in dialogue a series of works conceived by five international artists who have chosen the artist’s book, understood as an autonomous work of art, as the central element of their research.

In conjunction with “Work-Book-Work” a program of lectures and conferences with the artists and curators of Books and Others.

The visitors were involved in the seminar “September Book“, a workshop curated by Dallas and conducted by Giovanni Murolo and Marco Tomassoli with the participation of 8 artists, who worked with the public to create an editorial related to the work of every artist. Meanwhile, ICA is already preparing the next exhibition, “Perché le frontiere cambiano” by Masbedo, which opens this Friday, October 11th.

A jury of five experts – Saul Marcadent, Anna Franceschini, Cecilia Canziani, Samuel Gross and Lorenzo Paini – awarded the prize for the “best book of art and visual culture published in Italy in 2018” to the volume “Global Tools 1973- 1975 When Education coincides with Life “, edited by Silvia Franceschini and Valerio Borgonuovo for the NERO editions. To compete with the book of NERO, “Disappearing Objects” by Louis De Belle published by Bruno and “Unfinished. The birth of a style”, 2018 by Alterazioni Video published by Humboldt Books.
