On the occasion of Paris Fashion Week Online, Dior presented the new Spring/Summer 2021 men’s collection by Kim Jones in collaboration with Amoako Boafo, entitled “PORTRAIT OF AN ARTIST”.

The works of the Ghanaian artist were mixed with the looks of this new collection by Jones after the two met at the Rubell Museum in Miami last year and developed a strong friendship from there.

Kim Jones’ ties with Africa come from afar and are very strong as the British designer lived part of his childhood in Botswana, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Ghana.

Dior released yesterday a series of videos and teasers to tell the collection. In a first video, for example, the protagonists are the artisans of the maison’s atelier working on a trench coat, decorated with patches and inlays depicting a work by Boafo that can only be seen in its entirety when the trench coat is fully buttoned.

Shapes and shameless combinations: bomber jackets with bow collars, shirts, perfectly closed up to the neck, that are combined with shorts marked by tuxedo bands; tailoring and knitwear alternate, always reminding us that the focus of all Kim Jones’ work revolves around the works of Boafo, some of which, as said, are depicted on the most important garments in the collection.

The video you can see below is the digital presentation that Dior has made of the Spring/Summer 2021 men’s collection, in which we can see the artist from Accra, working on one of his works whose subjects represent the black community, the main theme of Boafo’s work that often uses huge canvases on which he draws through a material painting, in which the color is spread almost coarsely.
The video is composed of two short films (Act I and Act II), the first edited and soundtracked by the legendary English director Chris Cunningham, while the second directed by Jackie Nickerson.
