Doubles is a series by New York photographer Richard Kern, created starting from 2013.

Kern is one of the most daring and extreme artists of the last thirty years, famous for his hard underground films made since the eighties, and for his photography always very linked to subcultures and magazines such as Vice, Playboy, Purple.

Doubles is an exploration of innocence: a series of portraits of young women made by superimposing two separate images, one in which they are topless, the other in which they are fully clothed. Kern creates a hallucinating image of a female subject who is neither a girl nor a woman yet.

An attempt to portray the vulnerability and joy that come with growing in one’s body, role and sexual power.
