Discovering the inspirations behind the works of Tania Marmolejo Andersson is one of the most interesting moments when discovering the work of the artist born in Santo Domingo (1975) but, as her last name also suggests, influenced by a Scandinavian heritage.
She started as an illustrator in the fashion world now her works focus mainly on the concept of expression and social engagement campaigns in support of the figure of women in Hispanic society and culture. The female faces and bodies she portrays look like primitive sculptures or masks, with the expressive features emphasized and charged with tension. Among the most important stylistic influences in Tania Marmolejo Andersson’s work are German and Flemish art of the Renaissance and Baroque periods and German figurative and abstract expressionists. Scandinavian art takes its place in her works with its colors and minimalist approach, a style that was part of Tania’s training especially during her years of study in Norway.
The choices of depicting subjects, on the other hand, hark back to a far more distant world, that of Asian erotic paintings, which the artist replicates in their subtle but explicit sensuality.

Tania Marmolejo Andersson’s works are a crossroads of styles, in which an intimate and personal sphere is overlaid with a monumental approach in the representation of subjects, ambiguous and capable of instilling awe with those eyes pointed straight at the viewer.
Expression is understood by the artist as a system of communicating vessels to transfer emotions to viewers creating affective and emotional empathy. Everything for Tania converges in the attempt to represent emotionality using a contemporary language, which also looks back to the comics of the 1950s-60s-70s and 80s, alternating grace, eroticism and unpredictability.
