From BASE Milano, FAROUT returns with its third edition. For those who may not be familiar, it’s a festival that celebrates the diversity of live artistic expressions. This year, from October 5th to October 17th, 2023, FAROUT will take place under the theme “LONG STORY SHORT,” a celebration of many stories contrasted with a single narrative. For over 10 days, the post-industrial spaces of BASE Milano will transform into extraordinary settings, offering immersive environments, eclectic stages, and paths to explore the fusion of theater, music, dance, and visual arts from a cross-disciplinary perspective. But that’s not all. FAROUT will also extend beyond BASE, involving the neighborhoods of Barona and Giambellino, thanks to “Milano è Viva,” an initiative promoted by the Municipality of Milan with the contribution of MIC to support live performances, and reaching other significant locations in the city such as Volvo Studio Milano and CityLife Shopping District.

The immersive atmospheres of FAROUT Live Arts Festival will make their return at BASE Milano starting from October 5th. At 7:00 PM, Giulia Crispiani‘s installation “In balìa” will transform the Ground Hall into a suspended space between water and air, offering the audience the opportunity to navigate or follow the flow of events. The program will conclude on October 17th with “Le Cirque Astéroïde” by Marie-Caroline Hominal, a performance that blends rock concerts and dance spectacle inside a truck, turning the vehicle into a mobile poem in Barrio’s Milano.

The FAROUT Live Arts Festival 2023 guideline is inspired by the expression “To Make a Long Story Short,” which means focusing directly on the essential part of a narrative, leaving out unnecessary details. This edition celebrates the ambiguity between the unique “History” and the multiple individual stories. Art has the power to invent new languages, give voice to forgotten voices and reconstruct new forms of expression, offering the possibility of imagining future different from those known.

Artists from around the world will bring their stories and human, political and social visions to FAROUT 2023. National premieres and performances of international success will be presented, exploring themes such as the liberation of the body and the word from conformity, the dialogue between worlds in conflict, the generational reaction to the collapse of ideologies and the liberation of sexuality from patriarchal dynamics.

FAROUT Live Arts Festival 2023 promises to be a compelling cultural experience, offering a wide range of artistic expressions that will bring diversity and creativity to life. Do not miss the opportunity to be part of this celebration of unique and multiple stories, which will take place in Milan from 5 to 17 October 2023. For more information visit the BASE website
