The female portraits by Nikki van de Poel | Collater.al

You know that moment in the morning when you are awake but still in bed? Those minutes when your mind is still not clear and your sleepy face is hit by the warm sunlight that begins to light up the room? It is precisely these moments, intimate and personal, poised between reality and dream, that attract Nikki van de Poel.

Nikki, on Instagram known as @satellitejune, is a young photographer from the Netherlands who has never been away from analog photography since she discovered it. Always armed with her camera, Nikki is ready to capture moments of everyday life.

The idea to start taking pictures of young girls when they were just awake came to her a few years ago, during a time when she often found herself sleeping at a friend’s house. Thus was born the photographic series “Morning Rituals” in which her favorite subjects, which still dominate her shots today, stand out. The undisputed protagonists of her work are young girls, including herself, and natural light.

Sunlight, whose warm undertones are intensified by analog photography, combined with natural-looking girls, without make-up, disheveled and without superstructures, give her work a vintage style. Indeed, looking at Nikki van de Poel’s shots you might wonder if they were taken recently or thirty years ago.
