Let’s Start with the Fisherman Core

Among all the trends awaiting us in 2025, the Fisherman Core is the one that has intrigued us the most

It’s time to bring out your peacoats, cable-knit sweaters, Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea, and settle in front of the TV to watch fishing shows. That’s because one of the trends we think will dominate 2025 is the Fisherman Core. The style defining this trend is unmistakable and easy to replicate.

While we thought mini-trends were dead and buried, Pinterest has proven otherwise, noting a spike in searches for fisherman sandals (up 30%), cable-knit sweaters (up 110%), “waterproof outfit aesthetics” (up 35%), sardine tattoos (up 80%), and fish-shaped bags (up 50%). Though we’re skeptical about the last one’s actual connection to the Fisherman Core itself.

This aesthetic strongly reminds us of the Hamptons, marinière (or Breton) style popularized by Coco Chanel, and nautical inspirations that sometimes take us back to brands like Petit Bateau, Ralph Lauren, or Saraghina Eyewear. The latter, much closer to us geographically, has long embraced nautical aesthetics, especially in its packaging and marketing.

The key pieces include, as mentioned earlier, cable-knit sweaters, waterproof raincoats, caps (including handmade wool ones), striped shirts, peacoats, and rubber boots. Essentially, a range of items that oscillate between quiet luxury and a more informal, distinctly fishing boat-inspired aesthetic. However, the goal doesn’t seem to be looking like actual fishermen. Instead, it’s more about channeling someone who frequents the marina of a coastal town. Now, we just have to wait and see how this trend will evolve and the variations it will inspire.
