Glowtile: the modular tile that lights up

Presented in Paris during Matter and Shape, Glowtile is the modular lighting system designed by RedDuo for Leucos that transforms architectural surfaces into luminous compositions. More than just a lamp, the project works as an actual building element: a module that can be repeated, combined and arranged in space to create patterns, rhythms and depth.

The idea emerges from the dialogue between form and light. Glowtile takes the logic of the tile—one of the most archetypal elements of architecture—and reinterprets it as a luminous device. Each module becomes part of an open system capable of expanding into infinite configurations. Walls and ceilings are no longer just passive surfaces, but compositional fields where light builds structure, volume and atmosphere.

Glowtile is conceived as a modular kit: the elements can be placed side by side, rotated and combined to generate ever-changing compositions. The result is a visual language that moves between architecture and design, where repetition becomes rhythm and light integrates directly into the geometry of space.

Materiality and craftsmanship play a central role. The presence of ceramic introduces a tactile and architectural dimension, while the light diffuser creates a soft contrast between solid surface and diffused light. This balance between matter and luminosity gives life to a system that functions both as a functional element and as a visual intervention.

At Matter and Shape, the system is presented as a luminous surface that constructs space through patterns and depth, demonstrating how a simple module can generate complex compositions. Glowtile is not just a lighting system, but a design tool that transforms light into architecture.
