Gold Leaks, Vanderlei Lopes installation between art and alchemy

Gold Leaks, Vanderlei Lopes installation between art and alchemy

Giulia Pacciardi · 2 years ago · Art

Gold Leaks is the new artistic experiment of the Brazilian sculptor Vanderlei Lopes. He has always been fascinated by alchemy and the creative re-elaboration of different metallic materials, as a new King Midas transforms his sculptures into real mirages.

The gold that seems to pour everywhere in his gallery, from the walls to the floor, is actually shiny bronze, manipulated to create the illusion of the natural movement of the metal in its liquid form.

Behind his installations, however, there is a subtle sense of humor in the highly successful attempt to deceive the observer. In this play of materials halfway between the two forms, liquid and solid, the artist compares the alchemical process to that of transformation present in nature and in the human soul.

Short video for Breakfast – SLURP, late night escape

Short video for Breakfast – SLURP, late night escape

The funniest thing about the animation school students videos is that they use their imagination without limits.
They invent unlikely stories that point to irony, aiming to make people laugh.

SLURP, a short video by the French student Chloe Plat, tells the story of a small irreverent tongue that escapes from the mouth of its owner to jump into late night adventures.
First harmless, then a little bit crazy.

How many times have you been struggling with something too much, really too much, tight?
A shirt that doesn’t go through the neck, a pair of shoes that doesn’t want to get in, a pair of jeans that absolutely don’t want to suit.
And, perhaps, how many times, for one reason or another, has it been completely useless?

The short video Es mü z’äng by Lalita Lupita, of which we have already talked about here, tells exactly this story.
A completely pointless, and indeed counterproductive, tight fight.

David de la Mano’s dystopian shadows

David de la Mano’s dystopian shadows

Giulia Ficicchia · 2 years ago · Art

“Dystopia” seems to be the passworrd of this year to try to give space and attention to known themes, addressed but not yet resolved. Margaret Atwood’s maids have moved from the written narrative of their creator to the small screen, conquering several Emmys. Others are waiting for the new season of “The Man In The High Castle“, to find out how Japanese and Nazi will manage America and the world.

In reality it seems almost impossible to divide the art world from this trend, so much so that it’s hardly surprising when it is re-proposed by the Spanish artist David de la Mano in some of his last works in London.

In one of them, according to a movement that look like a Dante circle, or at least as it has always been represented over time, soldiers with, rather strange features, march. Heads of other animals such as dogs and birds replace for some of the protagonists human ones, in an artistic work that wants to be linked to one of the most pressing themes of recent years, that of migrants.

De la Mano’s shadows run away from hunger, poverty, war and death to look for their place in the world facing waves, chaos, fear and seem to temporarily find a place on the facades of walls and palaces.

The Swim Reaper is the only account you should follow on Instagram

The Swim Reaper is the only account you should follow on Instagram

Thanks to the new works born in the recent years, it’s not difficult to know of people who travel for the whole year from one incredible place to another.
In particular on Instagram, in fact, photos of people living at the sea from January to January are not even counted anymore.
In any case, while you certainly follow some of them, we are sure that you are not yet aware about the only one that is really worth following.

The Swim Reaper, cousin of the best-known Grim Reaper, spends his entire days immortalizing himself on deserted beaches waiting for a swimmer ready to make a fatal mistake.
Like his friend, in fact, even if in a less terrifying context, he waits for someone to give him life.

Despite the irony of the whole profile in reality, The Swim Reaper is nothing more than a campaign launched by the New Zealand government to promote water safety.
Every year, in fact, it’s estimated that the number of deaths caused by poorly thought-out behaviour is as low as one hundred, all of which are perfectly avoidable deaths and that, with this new idea, aim to decrease.
