What if a work of art was a functional everyday object? This is the new idea of IKEA, which has collaborated with 5 renowned artists for the limited edition collection, IKEA Art Event collection 2021.
“Each item in this collection has a practical function, and at the same time it is an art object. The traditional idea of art being high-end and design being part of mass culture simply is not relevant anymore. The two go fantastic together – that is where the magic happens”.
The artists who have collaborated with the Swedish giant are: Daniel Arsham, Gelchop, Humans since 1982, Sabine Marcelis and Stefan Marx. The collection will be available from next month in all stores and online on the website.
IKEA is not new to similar initiatives, already in 2015 it had created a similar collection gathering several artists always very influential. A path that the company has decided to take again, trying to make art accessible to everyone as much as possible.
We want to show that being an artist or being a designer does not mean that you have to stay in one box, you can work within different fields, and that this new movement has had a profound impact both on the design and art scenes today.
A collection definitely not to be missed, a chance to beautify your home or simply your room with a unique item made by some of today’s strongest and trendiest designers.
