On Collater.al we have already talked about how drones performances have increased in the last years. Used for propaganda, commercial or artistic purposes, the scenographic effect is the main attraction of Drone Art, able to create a futuristic and, above all, extremely scenic landscape in cities.
Not infrequently, formations of luminous drones have been used to celebrate holidays (such as the 100th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party) or anniversaries. Last announced performance will take place in Hamburg, on the occasion of the fifth year since the opening of the Elbphilharmonie, one of the largest and most modern concert halls in the world. The building, completed in 2017 in fact, was designed by the duo of archistars Herzog & de Meuron, the same ones who have signed the project of Feltrinelli Porta Volta in Milan and the Tate Modern in London to name just a couple.

On the occasion of the anniversary, which will fall in 2022, a drone performance, created by the Drift studio, has been planned. It will be called “Breaking Waves”, because the hundreds of drones will move like waves, following the elegant rhythm of the music of the second movement of thomas adès’s concerto for piano and orchestra, performed during the days of the celebrations.
The installation will rotate around the palace, this in order to be appreciated by all the citizens of Hamburg, one of the first European cities to discover Drone Art, already in 2015, thanks to a show organized by the company Intel. From the port area of the German city, it will be possible to follow the synchronized movement of the luminous drones, which will only give the impression of breaking on one of the best designed rocks in the world.
