The illustrated map of The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The illustrated map of The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Emanuele D'Angelo · 1 week ago · Art

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, often referred to as “The Met”, is one of the largest and most important museums in the United States. Its headquarters is located on the east side of Central Park in New York City, along what is called the Museum Mile.

The Met building is about 450 meters long and occupies an area of more than 180,000 square meters, a place that oozes art and history from all sides, where you can always find something new or something that has escaped in recent visits.

Thus John Kerschbaum undertook the arduous task in 2004 of illustrating to visitors a condensed but no less detailed map of the objects on display at the MET.
A feat not for everyone, the artist also had to deal with some modifications, as the museum added and removed exhibitions and pieces in the following years, but the guide is still valid for people visiting the institution.

“One of the biggest challenges was keeping up with the museum itself. Every time I visited, it was different than my previous visit,” says the illustrator. Taking inspiration from a 1976 poster of Manhattan by artist Tony Graham, the whimsical, colorful map that was completed in 2007 has humored visitors ever since. Starting with the Egyptian wing in the bottom right corner, and stretching to include sights like medieval armor, Renaissance portraits, and Grecian sculptures, the Where’s Waldo? compactness of the guide features a hidden scavenger hunt along its borders.

While waiting for the Metropolitan Museum of Art to reopen, all you have to do is leaf through the very long and complicated map designed by John Kerschbaum so that you can get ready for a new tour.

Women and nature in Bianca Nemelc’s paintings

Women and nature in Bianca Nemelc’s paintings

Giulia Guido · 6 days ago · Art

Warm and cozy colors, from yellow to green, sinuous and clean shapes that outline beautiful bodies immersed in Caribbean nature. What we find in the paintings of Bianca Nemelc, a young American artist, are her origins, but also a place to take refuge, to be in the company of free women in their bodies, where there are no limits or restrictions.

For Bianca Nemelc art is a way to express herself, to share her thoughts and experiences, to express feelings that could not be described in words. The time she paints is the time she dedicates to herself and the more she creates the more she discovers about herself.

The representation of female figures intersects and merges with that of nature and, through her works, Bianca Nemelc presents to the public a universe devoid of preconceptions, in which modern society does not exist and with it there are not even rules and inequalities.

Looking at Bianca Nemelc’s paintings you will have the feeling that everything, finally, is in the right place: the woman free to be a woman, immersed in a nature that is not an enemy, but home.

“Sunrises from a small window”, the Sho Shibuya newspapers

“Sunrises from a small window”, the Sho Shibuya newspapers

Emanuele D'Angelo · 6 days ago · Art

Sho Shibuya, in this particular moment where we are overwhelmed by bulletins and news flashes, offered us an escape route by painting the panorama of her window in the front pages of the New York Times.

The graphic designer born in Japan but raised in New York, during this quarantine created his particular series: “Sunrises from a small window”.

What started out as a way of documenting the days spent at home during isolation has grown into a captivating series that tells the colors of the sky per day.

From graduated shades of blue to explosions of bright pink and warm orange, Sho Shibuya with its tones and colors from its window provided a relaxing contrast to the strictly covered titles of the day.
