Originality is certainly a quality that is not lacking in Lucy Sparrow. For her latest installation, the young English artist has created her own supermarket, Sparrow Mart.
So far this may seem normal, almost as if to go unnoticed if it were not for the fact that every single item on the shelves is made of felt. Lucy spent more than a year sewing over 31,000 groceries, from sushi to steaks, from fruit to ice cream. The choice of the material has fallen on the felt because it is a fabric that does not fray, easy to cut and above all available in all possible colors. And what better place to exhibit her works than a supermarket?
On the second floor of a hotel in Downtown Los Angeles you can make a shopping trip never done before, because, yes, everything on display is for sale. To make the experience even more realistic visitors are given shopping carts, baskets or trays, with which at the end of the visit go to the checkout to pay.
A real lust for the eyes, a little less for empty stomachs.
