Metropolis transforms cities through denim

-
Anna Frattini

The denim brand Metropolis builds every collection starting from a process of observation and immersion in cities, translating architecture, symbols, and urban atmospheres into washes, embroidery, and details that end up imprinted on the fabric. In this way, each pair of jeans becomes a kind of urban archive, able to hold fragments of a city, collective memories, and the contrasts that define a place’s identity.

The idea behind the project is simple: telling the metropolis through denim. The embroidered lines, treated surfaces, and marks running across the fabric aren’t just aesthetic elements—they’re direct references to streets, architecture, and urban symbols. It’s as if the city literally seeps into the garment, leaving visible traces in the material and turning the jeans into a map you can wear.

The project maintains a strong connection to Italian manufacturing. Production takes place entirely in Le Marche, one of the most important districts for textile craftsmanship, and follows a short-supply-chain approach that prioritizes quality and control over the production process. Each drop is made in a limited, numbered edition—a choice that reflects an approach aligned with slow fashion values and far from the dynamics of overproduction.

Each release is dedicated to a different city, turning the project into a kind of ongoing journey through the urban imagination. The first chapter was Milan, told through symbolic details such as the embroidery of the San Siro stadium, transformed into a graphic mark that holds a piece of collective memory. The second drop is dedicated to Rome, interpreted through two washes—an essential rinsed finish and a more textured aged one—capturing the idea of a layered city, worn by time and crossed every day.

The next chapter will be Naples, where denim becomes the meeting point between the street, work, and popular culture. A lighter denim, marked by stains and treatments that echo street games and everyday life, turning the garment into a symbol of identity and belonging.

In short, Metropolis presents itself as a narrative project: a way to observe cities, move through them, and then transform them into something you can wear every day. Because, as the brand’s concept suggests, it’s not just about jeans—it’s a piece of city you can put on.
