”Milan does not exist without ‘Salone del Mobile’ and there cannot be a ‘Salone del Mobile’ without Milan”. This year the first Manifesto of the event, now in its 57th edition, tells us.
A very popular stage for many established and emerging designers but also the most crowded period of the city together with the fashion week.
Unfailing appointment at the fair from Tuesday 17 to Sunday 22 April, especially for insiders. Get ready also for the Fuorisalone events, located in every corner of the city which will assign the impossible task, for design lovers, to visit all of them.
Hidden courtyards, historic buildings, entire neighborhoods, showrooms and places normally closed during the year will be temporary dwellings of installations, exhibitions and events.
For this reason we have decided to draw up an indispensable list of 5 Must-See able to untangle the skein of this Milan Design week.
We’ll cach at the end of the MDW to give you feedback and make additions.
COS: Open Sky
The COS brand has always consecrated, during the design week, emerging names to keep an eye on. Therefore, this year we highly recommend you visit the site specific installation: ‘Open Sky‘ by the American artist Phillip K Smith III which will be presented in Corso Monforte 35 at Palazzo Isibardi. The installation will interact with the environment and will be inspired by the Milanese sky and the architecture of the Renaissance.

Cristina Celestino: Tram Corallo
A journey inside an old 1928 tram decorated with Rubelli’s upholstery which becomes a mobile living room. An unmissable project by Cristina Celestino inspired by the theme of travel and the antique cinema in which Milan, with its urban weighings, becomes the protagonist.

Vitra: ”Typecasting. An Assembly of Iconic, Forgotten and New Vitra Characters”
At ‘La Pelota’ sports arena (Brera Design District), the Viennese designer Robert Stadler will present an installation / exhibition that will immerse the viewer in the past, present and future history of the brand, including prototypes and flops. The approach won’t be chronological and arid so we expect to see something fresh and creative.

Ventura Centrale and Ventura Future
We are very curious to visit the new Ventura Future, a new concept born from Ventura Project that has left the Lambrate area in the hands of other organizers. A loft exhibition space, the University of Pharmacy of Viale Abruzzi and FuturDome: a redesigned Art Nouveau building in the Loreto area, the former Futurist headquarters that will host Editions Milano with Patricia Urquiola and Federico Peri and Mingardo with Federica Biasi, Mae Engelgeer, Valerio Sommarella and Denis Guidone.
Second year instead for Ventura Centrale which will take place in the abandoned station stores as always. The noteworthy installations are: the reinterpretation of an American ‘Diner’ by the famous architect David Rockwell for Surface Magazine, Nitto with an installation made up of colored adhesive tapes and AGC Asahi Glass (world leader in the production of glass) through a crystal currently under development will allow the viewer to experience particular auditory phenomena.

NENDO : ‘Forms Of Movement’
At the Superstudio in Via Tortona there is the eagerly awaited exhibition by the Japanese designer Oki Satu (NENDO). ‘Forms Of Movement’ will be set up inside a mysterious maze of 800 square meters based on the concept of movement given by the material. Apart from the row, the creative world of Nendo is unmissable.
