Mysterious Al and Tommy Hilfiger together for a micro-capsule

Tommy Hilfiger launches its second Tommy’s Drop Shop consisting of a limited-edition micro-capsule co-designed with Mysterious Al, a London-born, Melbourne-based artist.

Tommy’s Drop Shop aims to encourage the continued discovery of creatives, their communities, and their artistic talents.

The DROP 2 counts less than 200 units per item and is available starting today at tommy.com.

The London-born artist channeled spontaneity and energy into his looks for Tommy’s Drop Shop through a rich study of method and color. The collaborative capsule collection, consisting of a short-sleeved T-shirt, a long-sleeved T-shirt and a hoodie, transforms style-free forms in a way that brings order to chaos.

Mysterious Al achieved notoriety in the early 2000s through the explosion of street art and through his wall paintings, paste-ups and street installations. Over the years, Al’s work has evolved to evoke deeper meaning: today he reimagines ancient tribal masks and works with an intense primary color palette.

Tommy’s Drop Shop is open to creatives from all areas of pop culture and invites them to collaborate on the creation of Limited Editions with lightning-fast launches. Each DROP features genderless hoodies and T-shirts, available in limited editions and made from 100% organic or recycled cotton, based on the brand’s mission to create fashion that “Wastes Nothing and Welcomes All”. Creative collaboration has always been at the heart of Tommy Hilfiger’s modus operandi, and over the past five years, the brand has fused this with a “See Now, Buy Now” mentality.

Tommy’s Drop Shop combines the best of these approaches with a new level of speed and energy.
The third Tommy’s Drop Shop micro-capsule will launch in April 2021.

Below you can read a Q&A with artist Mysterious Al, featured in the second Tommy’s Drop Shop.

Can you start by telling us who you are, where you are from and what you do?

I’m Mysterious Al. I’m an artist from London (UK) now living in Melbourne (AUS).

How did you become an Artist?

I’ve always been an artist. I first made my name in the early 2000’s during the birth of street-art, and now I paint large murals, do gallery shows and collaborate with like-minded brands.

What has been the most defining moment of your career to date?

Over the years, I’ve become notorious for putting on art shows in unusual locations. Last year I produced an enormous, immersive museum-style show in a derelict warehouse in Melbourne, Australia. Despite us having no permits or permission it became one of the biggest shows of the year.

What is your earliest memory of Tommy Hilfiger?

Growing up in the 90’s, Tommy was the brand to be seen in.

What excites you most about this project?

Getting to put my mark on one of the world’s most iconic brands.

How did you create these particular designs?

The designs were based on artworks I made during the long, harsh covid-19 lockdown. I made everything as bright and fun as I could, and added some positivity and good vibes. We all need it at the moment.

What inspired you to take part in Tommy’s Drop Shop?

It’s a great opportunity to add my mark to one of the most respected brands… Let’s see what happens when our worlds collide!
