The architecture firm “Nordic Office” based in Oslo presented the project “Nanchang Waves“, a spiral tower in the Chinese province of Jiangxi. Located next to a park in the city of Nanchang, the project responds to the natural qualities of the site, creating a unique experience where building and landscape blend together.
The project consists of three natural elements – water, earth and sky – which correspond to three functional areas: the front square, the commercial facilities and the tower.
The landscape design of the front square is integrated with the ancient water culture of Nanchang and the landscape of the adjacent lake, the aim was to create something never seen before but above all to reflect the region.
“Each of the nodes in the landscape contains functions for people of different ages and provides interesting and memorable spatial experiences,” the architects explain. The viewing tower and the surrounding public garden create versatile and welcoming spaces that enhance and connect the urban context with the natural landscape of the region. In Nanchang Waves, event arenas, cafes, galleries and urban agriculture gardens are included for schools in the neighborhood.
The experience culminates with a spectacular observation tower when you get to the top and enter the observation platform you can enjoy an unparalleled view of the natural landscape as well as admire the city skyline in the distance.
