Virgil Abloh’s legacy in new Off-White campaign

Virgil Abloh’s legacy in new Off-White campaign

Andrea Tuzio · 9 months ago · Style

Off-White unveiled its new Fall/Winter 2022 campaign shot by Brazilian photographer Rafael Pavarotti, accompanied by videos by Italian videomaker Federico Busatto directed by Dazed editor-in-chief and art and image director of the brand founded by Virgil Abloh in 2012, IB Kamara.

The campaign perfectly blends Virgil’s legacy with Off-White’s forward-looking and ever-evolving gaze, highlighting tensions and necessary conversations between past and present, culture and subculture, skatewear and high fashion.

The backdrop to the countryside is the striking Moroccan city of Chefchaouen, the “Blue Pearl of Morocco,” perhaps the most beautiful and evocative in the entire African country. Located at the foot of the Rif Mountains, its defining feature is the wonderful cascade of blue houses perfectly set within a fabulous natural landscape.

The models seem to almost blend with the almost surreal context of the city, in a story made of contrasts and taking inspiration from the various souls that make up Virgil Abloh’s idea and soul.

“Virgil revolutionised streetwear and luxury that crosses generations and decades. He showed the world that the underrepresented, the underdogs and Black people, in particular, have brilliant minds and can push and compete equally in the establishment. He inspired hope and brought about change. Virgil Abloh was one of the freest-thinking black men of our time”, Kamara stated.

Off-White’s FW22 collection is available online and in the brand’s boutiques around the world.

Bottega Veneta and Strand Book Store tote bags

Bottega Veneta and Strand Book Store tote bags

Andrea Tuzio · 9 months ago · Style

Perhaps few people in Italy are familiar with Strand Book Store, one of New York City’s most famous and beloved bookstores, located near the quaint Union Square. One of the bookstore’s hallmarks are its tote bags with the highly recognizable and iconic red logo, and it is Strand’s book tote bags that are the subject of Bottega Veneta‘s latest collaboration.

Strand’s canvas tote is a classic, extremely functional and simple, it also represents a status that I would call proletarian, but with all the limitations.

The Italian fashion house has revisited this symbol of the Big Apple and the Strand by making three upscale renditions of the New York bookstore tote, using the finest leather and, of course, putting the bookstore’s logo on full display.

Bottega Veneta’s new creative director Matthieu Blazy, in addition to being a frequent visitor to Strand on his trips to New York City, to push the collaboration even further commissioned The New Yorker to produce five cartoons – the New Yorker‘s cartoons are among America’s most famous – created by illustrator and cartoonist Jeremy Nguyen, celebrating the unexpected partnership.

The three book tote from Bottega Veneta and Strand Book Store are available online at the Italian fashion house’s webstore

Helmut Lang and UNIQLO together after 8 years

Helmut Lang and UNIQLO together after 8 years

Andrea Tuzio · 9 months ago · Style

The first time Helmut Lang and UNIQLO decided to join forces and create a collaborative collection was Fall/Winter 2014.
The then creative director of the brand founded in 1986 and acquired by Prada in 2004, Alexandre Plokohov, created with UNIQLO a series of sweatshirts with a minimalist and super comfortable design.

Today the two brands find themselves collaborating again, and this time the focus of the collaboration is a collection that revisited Helmut Lang’s “Classic Cut“.

The inspiration for this collaboration comes directly from the “HELMUT LANG JEANS” label dating back to Spring/Summer 1997, which in turn was inspired by vintage levi’s.

With this collaboration comes what is the philosophy of the two brands, consisting of simplicity, essentiality and comfort. The lines of Helmut Lang x UNIQLO Classic Cut jeans represent a kind of new interpretation of denim, characterized by a completely peculiar timelessness, and a clean yet complex aesthetic.

The stitching, buttons and rivets are tone on tone, the cotton used is organic and recycled, as are the materials used to sew all the elements.

Available in three color options, white, dark gray and dark indigo, the Helmut Lang x UNIQLO Classic Cut jeans will be available for purchase online and in UNIQLO stores starting Sept. 26.

A.P.C. rediscovers its roots with Jane Birkin

A.P.C. rediscovers its roots with Jane Birkin

Andrea Tuzio · 9 months ago · Style

A.P.C. is certainly one of the most interesting brands on the high streetwear scene.
Founded by Jean Touitou in 1987, A.P.C. is a French clothing brand that is both authentic and approachable in its aesthetic and philosophy. While A.P.C. became known for its classic raw denim jeans, it now offers a full collection of men’s and women’s clothing and accessories that embody simple, natural elegance. Jean Touitou works with his wife, Judith Touitou, who is the brand’s artistic director. A.P.C. fully reflects the vision of its founder, composed of a minimalist and essential aesthetic. It is precisely this identity, elegant and casual, that makes A.P.C. an almost timeless brand.

Today A.P.C. launches a new collection in collaboration with British but naturalized French actress, singer and director Jane Birkin, already available on the French brand’s website. A true icon in the world of French culture – unforgettable the scene in Michelangelo Antonioni’s Blow-Up (1966) in which Birkin appears topless – thanks also to her love story and artistic partnership with Serge Gainsbourg.

Jean Touitou commented on the collaboration with the actress as follows:
“Jane Birkin knows how to dress. This becomes obvious when you talk to her. She also knows how to give a very literary dimension to her attraction to this material or that shape.
For example, when talking about corduroy, she’ll talk about how she admired and was intrigued by the young French people wearing corduroy trousers in London. And it’s almost like the start of a novel.
She’s also constantly on the lookout for a man’s suit “in which you can show up at a party without feeling ashamed of being, as the saying goes, a sheep in wolf’s clothing!”, and trousers with deep pockets that make a handbag unnecessary.
We worked at trying to perfect all her daily outfits with her and under her guidance. I admit that, on the surface, it doesn’t look like anything special, because there’s nothing spectacular about it, except – using Jane’s own words – good basic materials that age well, because she likes to keep her clothing for years, and finishes that live up to their name.
In reality, she was the only person we could have done this kind of work with, which is, at the same time, a kind of return to our roots in terms of the Old A.P.C. work method”
