OTW by Vans, the space that brings together Vans and cultural innovators, has announced a new collaboration with Piet Parra. For this project, the Dutch artist chose to reinterpret a shoe that holds special significance for him: the Vans Half Cab. A former professional skateboarder in the 1990s, Parra has always had a close connection with this model, which he continued to use even after being sponsored by Vans in the Netherlands.
The OTW by Vans x Piet Parra Suede Half Cab is a vibrant reinterpretation, featuring premium suede panels and colors typical of the artist. The wavy lines of the panels reflect Parra’s fluid and distinctive artistic style. The co-branded insoles carry a playful message from the artist: «Don’t forget to skate in these!».
Parra explained his approach to the collaboration by saying, «The Half Cab is my favorite skate shoe, a true classic that I’ve used in every color. I wanted to add my personal touch while preserving the essence of the original design, choosing suede and colors that reflect my artistic aesthetic».
The campaign, starring Vans team rider Curren Caples, pays homage to the 1989 video Ban This, one of Parra’s favorites, which includes a memorable performance by Steve Caballero, the inspiration behind the Half Cab model.
