Palace Sparks a Revolution at Gap

Just over a month ago, Zac Posen became the Creative Director of Gap, surprising many industry insiders. Today, it seems a true revolution is underway within the brand. Yesterday, on March 18th, a series of collaborative posts appeared on the Instagram profiles of Palace and Gap, announcing a partnership far from the usual collabs we see every day. One of the products that caught our attention the most is the new version of the classic Gap sweatshirt, where the iconic lettering is replaced by PAL. The original logo, instead, is positioned on the back of the garment. Moreover, in the launch campaign, we spotted Mel B, and we certainly cannot overlook the debut of the English brand in the world of kidswear thanks to this partnership. Let’s find out more about this collab and the disruption caused by Palace within such an iconic brand like Gap.

Skate Culture Influences Gap Too

It’s also discussed on GQ, where Cam Wolf interviews Lev Tanju, one of the co-founders of Palace. The operation behind this collaboration starts from an important premise: skate culture – as pervasive as it is countercurrent – is conquering everyone, even Gap. As mentioned earlier and also present in the interview, the garment that immediately catches the eye is the PAL sweatshirt. A classic from our childhood reinvented in the service of Palace’s suggestions. But there are also Oxford shirts and varsity jackets. In short, a collection waiting to be discovered.

Palace’s Debut in Kidswear

Another noteworthy aspect of this collaboration is Palace’s debut in kidswear. Great news for the English brand, which can now expand the wardrobe of the youngest ones. A novelty due to the great popularity of skateboarding among children and an unprecedented perspective. Certainly exciting for Palace enthusiasts who now also consider how to dress their children.

Mel B is also featured in the launch campaign

This partnership achieves an even more British flavor with the participation of Mel B, Sporty Spice. The influence of the Spice Girls is still very strong, and the involvement of one of them makes the launch campaign even more iconic. In short, the one with Gap is a partnership that we will struggle to forget and that reminded us of the importance of authenticity in operations of this kind.
