Paris, Pont Neuf, many celebrities in the front row, and one of the most anticipated fashion shows of the year: Pharrell Williams‘ debut as the artistic director of Louis Vuitton. For days, the location remained sealed off for the setup of a gigantic runway entirely covered with the gold Damier pattern, all in front of the historic headquarters of the French fashion house. Titled LoVers, Williams’ first show as director did not disappoint expectations.

In recent days, it was talked about everywhere, and the introductory video released on the fashion house’s profile intrigued everyone. Pharrell envisions a new streetwear style and brings back the Damier pattern, pixelated and camouflaged, renaming it Damouflage. But it’s not just innovation; there are also some references to the past, such as the traditional monogram, especially with the return of the iconic Speedy trunks, available in both classic and vibrant colors. This show has everything: from college bombers to oversized faux fur coats and sporty jumpsuits, and even embroidered denim inspired by the works of American artist Henry Taylor.

The casting of the show is diverse, with models standing or riding golf carts loaded with trunks and duffel bags showcasing the new logo. Among the models, we also find Pusha T and designer Stefano Pilati. Everyone, from friends to family, supports Pharrell’s debut, conveying a very clear message: Make love, not war. This message is well echoed by Voices of Fire, the gospel choir that came from Virginia, Williams’ home state, singing Joy (Unspeakable), one of the new songs produced by the designer, who started his career as a producer and singer. Two additional tracks are also added: Chains & Whips and Peace Be Still, a composition he has been working on for almost ten years. But the music doesn’t end there because Jay Z also performed with a mini-concert destined to become one of the most iconic moments of the fashion show.
