The rainy season we just went through slowed down the picnic season a bit, but now that summer seems to have really begun we can talk about the new Tahiti Picnic Baskets designed by Buccellati and Patricia Urquiola. The collection combines the Tahiti line – conceived by the jewelry maison in the 1960s – and the fresh look of designer Urquiola, resulting in a set with “informal sophistication,” as Andrea Buccellati, the Maison’s creative director, called it. In fact, the collection’s cutlery and accessories are presented together with a picnic basket, capable of creating a more playful and convivial situation. «From bamboo meeting silver, the idea was born to re-interpret the classic picnic basket in a playful way, with references to traditional Asian baskets,» explains designer Patricia Urquiola. But let’s understand more about what this set is composed of.

The new Tahiti Picnic Baskets are made with the refined craftsmanship typical of the Maison Buccellati. Externally, they feature an elegant leather weave in shades of beige and brown, while the internal structure is made of wood covered with soft suede fabric. The silverware included in the set belongs to the Tahiti Buccellati collection, complemented by the chinaware. The watchword is “conviviality,” which, in our opinion, is anything but informal, given the elegance and value of these pieces. In short, this is Buccellati’s vision of the picnic, a far cry from the classic supermarket impromptu and perhaps one that can move us away from the decidedly unsustainable “disposable” idea.
