«The Poodle chair does not require regular care, unlike its animal relatives,» Polish designer Mati Sipiora explains when talking about her fun and stylish Poodle chair, literally ”poodle.” In a video of his on Instagram, Sipiora shows the audience the creative inspiration behind this chair. It all starts with the stylized poodle figure, very similar to the one created by a balloon, reminding us of Jeff Koons‘ famous sculptures. The three-dimensional model then explodes, distributing the rounded cylinders to compose a seat with a rigorous Bauhaus-style character. «It is an object that has its own personality, impossible not to notice it immediately upon entering the room it is in. It knows how to dominate its space, but it is gentle in its ways,» the designer comments with amusement.
Without a doubt, the Poodle chair knows how to win you over, with irony but also with its strong character. Available in different colors, from electric blue to classic stainless steel, we really like it in the orange color with red upholstery. In a drawing by Mati Sipiora (on cover) we see the poodle chair used by an alien, here the coloring is pink and we don’t mind it at all. So much of the fun aspect of his creative vision actually emerges from his sketches, as does his artistic approach to design. «Mati Sipiora’s brand mission is to break monochromatic interiors with bold finishes and shapes,» reads the about on her website. It all adds up. Fun and rebellious, his design knows how to transform living spaces and make a cold material like steel vibrate.
