Keith Haring‘s art receives a new three-dimensional interpretation through a new book recently published by Poposition Press. Some of Haring’s most iconic works are transformed into pop-up pages, thanks to the synergistic work of illustrator Simon Arizpe and Poposition Press founder Rosston Meyer. Works include “Sculptures,” “The Marriage of Heaven and Hell,” “Pop Shop Grid,” “Dog,” “Silence=Death,” and the “Houston Street Mural.” The process of translating Haring’s two-dimensional works into pop-up form was not as simple as it might seem. Arizpe, who meticulously designed the pop-ups, explained to CreativeBoom, «As I researched his life, I learned how prolific his artwork was, right up to the end of his life, as well as his commitment to using his work as a service to the community-two things I think I can improve upon in my life and art practice.»

Of course, the choice of works was also based on the feasibility of translation. Those most amenable to the pop-up format were chosen, all while maintaining consistency with Haring’s work. The energy of his works is also found here in the book, where they have a chance to come alive. Keith Haring Pop Up Book sells for US$60 and, in addition to the book, Poposition Press has released two editions, a love postcard and a pop-up poster of “The Marriage of Heaven and Hell.” The success of this recent publication is a testament to the lasting impact of Keith Haring’s work and the innovative ways in which he continues to inspire and engage new generations.
