Born in 1995, Eddy Leonel Aldana is a young Guatemalan-American who lives in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he follows a master’s degree in photography. His passion for this art, however, was born much earlier, suffice it to say that his Por Si Las Moscas project began as a graduation project during his last year of university.
Por Si Las Moscas – in English ‘just in case’ – started in 2014, when, after his father’s untimely death, a sort of need, an urgency to photograph his family and the places linked to his father was born in Eddy.
My dad used to take me to work with him when I would have some off time during school. We would usually paint walls, power wash, or something else that made paying the bills possible. When I’d go with him, he would remind me to bring a change of clothes or a sweater, “por si las moscas”, or just in case.
The photographic series is the effect of that feeling that pervades us when we lose a loved person, when the fear of forgetting them overwhelms our thoughts and we understand that memories are the most important thing we have and we must do everything to preserve them.
Thus, the shots of Eddy Leonel Aldana immortalize the faces, the places, the moments that remind him of his father. The element that never leaves the images is a warm light that touches and surrounds the subjects, making us almost feel at home.

Surprisingly and fortunately, Por Si Las Moscas did not end with graduation. The shots taken during that period were included in the first volume of the project, to which a second volume has been added and, certainly, two more will follow.
